The Envision Littleton Comprehensive Plan – How it Guides SMHO
The Envision Littleton Comprehensive Plan (also referred to as the Comp. Plan), which was adopted by the City of Littleton on October 15, 2019, is meant to guide future development, redevelopment, and community enhancement efforts over the next 20 years through 2040. It serves as a framework for thoughtful community discussion on the real and perceived challenges currently facing Littleton, and opportunities that will shape its future. This plan is intended to take our community to a new level in terms of livability and tangible accomplishments.
SMHO has a thorough understanding of the Comp. Plan, and specifically focuses on the sections Land Use and Community Character and Housing and Neighborhoods. Each of these sections identify Key Issues and Considerations, Goals, Policies, and Actions that we use to guide us on the right path to address the city’s housing issues and provide more accessible housing options for a wider range of people in Littleton.
The bottom line in the Comp Plan states that the midpoint of a potential growth range for the plan is nearly 15,000 additional residents over the next 20 years, meaning that 6,550 additional housing units would be needed to accommodate the increase.
Because Littleton is largely built out, to what extent the potential growth can be absorbed depends on the City’s zoning framework and other municipality policy decisions going forward (e.g., regarding housing strategies, open space, economic development, etc.)
