SMHO and Habitat Homeownership Program Nominated for Eagle Award
South Metro Housing Options (SMHO) and Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver (Habitat) are thrilled to announce their nomination for an Eagle Award through Housing Colorado, recognizing their outstanding collaboration in creating affordable homeownership opportunities in Littleton. This prestigious nomination highlights the innovative partnership between SMHO and Habitat, aimed at transforming public housing rental units into life-changing homeownership opportunities for low-income families.
In a dynamic effort to address housing challenges, SMHO leveraged 59 of its existing public housing rental units and joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to affordably renovate and sell these homes. By offering affordable mortgages to families earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), this initiative has successfully preserved the existing housing stock while empowering 48 first-time homebuyers to date.
This nomination not only celebrates the impact of SMHO and Habitat’s work but also underscores the importance of community collaboration in fostering sustainable and viable homeownership solutions.
“This nomination recognizes the collaborative spirit and innovative approach that SMHO and Habitat for Humanity have embraced to make homeownership a reality for families in need. We are proud to contribute to a stronger, more vibrant Littleton,” said SMHO Executive Director, Corey Reitz.
Join us in celebrating this achievement and the ongoing commitment to making homeownership a reality for more families in Littleton and beyond.
We would also like to extend heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees for the Eagle Award 2025, each of whom has demonstrated exceptional commitment and innovation in the housing sector. Your efforts are vital in shaping a future where affordable housing is accessible to all.
We look forward to celebrating the remarkable achievements of each organization at the Eagle Awards Ceremony, where the winners will be announced on Thursday, June 5. It promises to be an inspiring evening, showcasing the power of collaboration and dedication in building stronger communities.
