From Vision to Reality: The Journey to Montview Flats
Excitement is building as we approach the groundbreaking of our latest affordable housing development, Montview Flats, located in the heart of downtown Littleton. The journey to Montview Flats began in 2017 with the City’s inaugural housing study, which revealed a significant surge in housing prices since 2012. The study highlighted that while Littleton’s quality schools and employment opportunities are major attractions, the rising cost of living has become a pressing concern for many community members.
Montview Flats is made possible, in part, by the City of Littleton’s first Inclusionary Housing Ordinance (IHO). The IHO provides essential relief from parking, density, and lot size requirements, making affordable development possible on sites that were previously deemed unfeasible. Montview Flats will take advantage of such a site at 0.69 acres.
Montview Flats will seamlessly blend contemporary design with affordability and walkability. This prime location is just a short walk from Arapahoe Community College, the Downtown Littleton light rail station, and historic Main Street. The property is ideally situated near a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, and community amenities, including a public library. This accessibility enhances the neighborhood’s appeal, making it convenient for residents to enjoy a variety of local businesses and services. Employees can easily commute to work while benefiting from the affordability and quality of life. This synergy between living and working in the community fosters a more sustainable and connected environment for everyone involved.
For years, SMHO has partnered with the City of Littleton to implement a strategic, community-wide approach to tackle the rising unaffordability of housing. The construction of Montview Flats represents a significant step forward in these long-term efforts, transforming the vision of affordable homes into reality for residents.
